Launching Lynki.com - A Fun Way to Discover new sites
It has been an exciting time for eSocialWeb.com. We've got some good press (see Louis Gray's review) and got a great user base and community.
By far, the most suggested comment from users has been to make the site name shorter and more memorable. So we're now launching as Lynki.com. It's a shorter name and hopefully more fun, because, we're all about fun and enjoying great new sites that you come across.
We've launched Lynki.com as a private beta for now, so new users need to signup to get access. The reason we have done this is that we're beta testing some new features on Lynki.com like Mood Browsing and other cool new features.
We're excited and thank you for your support. Come over to Lynki.com and enjoy browsing the web!

Just Created a Blog for eSocialWeb.com
I wanted to create a blog for eSocialWeb.com so that I can discuss new and upcoming sites and ideas. The blog is at http://www.esocialweb.com/blog/
I downloaded Wordpress, and found it very easy to setup and customize. Now the hard part is getting the blog some readers!

eSocialWeb Facebook App
I've been tinkering around with creating a Facebook App for my website. I've finally done the job. Check out http://apps.facebook.com/esocialweb/
It seems to be working great. It wasn't very hard to setup (as I had expected).
I thought creating the app might help push the message for on the Facebook community.
I've already put some ads on the site. What surprises me is how low the eCPM really is. At $0.15 eCPM, you would need millions of impressions to make some pocket change. Anyways, it is good learning experience.

A new way to discover sites
Like a lot of people I spend a lot of time surfing the web. However, I find I keep visiting the same sites - news, social networking. I found it hard to discover new websites. For example if I was just looking for what are the coolest blogs or web design sites. I would only find about them if I heard about them through someone else.
I created www.eSocialWeb.com, which is a Digg-like site but, not for news. Here users can vote for their favorite sites, discuss and review sites. Hopefully it is a useful for people to discover new sites and share their favorite sites with everyone else. Happy surfing!

Twitter Growth
I have recently signed into and started using my Twitter account. I have been a little to join in and it certainly seems that Twitter is going through a massive increase in its user base, going from early adopters to more mainstream users. It is a great way to connect with other people, and develop a network online. There are a lot of interesting and influential bloggers and users on Twitter. But beyond that I find it a great way to come across interesting articles and stay on top of news.
Twitter is also becoming important for companies and marketing departments to join the conversion. Some companies have opened Twitter accounts and are sending messages to their user communities. It is also a great way to find out what people are saying and even getting the conversation going for new ideas or promotions. It is certainly a growing platform and an area that will evolve over the year.

Back to Blogging
One of my New Year Resolutions (not sure why people wait for the new year to resolve to do something) is to start blogging again.
It is certainly going to be a tough year, with the economy and all. But there is a lot of interesting things happening in technology, for example Facebook and Twitter's growing user base. These services help users connect and build a community. They could even threaten mighty Google, who's services are more transaction based than community-based. They do however need to find a way to monetize services.
Another exciting technology growing is the online video space. Services such as Hulu.com have figured a way to distribute paid content for free while achieving profitability. They certainly represent the future of video consumption. Sites like Netflix have also done a great job distributing content and making it easily consumable on-demand. This represents a change from the older services that used to force you to start downloading the movie before you could play it. It also makes a lot of sense while broadband bandwidths increase.
I will certainly try to do a better job being frequent about my posts, this year :)
